10 Items You Need Every Day in Construction

A career in construction can be very lucrative, but it isn’t always easy. It can take some time to find the right path, and there will be many days filled with hard work and dangerous tasks. That’s why you need the right gear to keep you safe and productive. Here are 10 items that every construction worker should bring to the site on a daily basis.

  • Quality Work Boots

No matter what sort of job you’re assigned to, there’s a good chance you’re going to be on your feet for a large portion of the day. If you aren’t sporting a high-quality pair of weather resistant work boots, your feet will suffer tremendously. A good pair of boots will keep you warm and comfortable while preventing potential injury or soreness later in the day.

  • A Hard Hat

Construction sites are rife with falling debris, whether it be large chunks of demolished concrete or a single bolt dropped by another worker above. A hard hat will protect your head from damage should any of these items end up striking you.

  • Protective Eyewear

With all the grinding, pounding, and drilling, microscopic particles of dust and dirt fill the air around construction sites. You’ll need glasses, goggles, or face shields to keep your eyes safe from the swirling debris, especially on windy days.

  • Dust Masks

Even if you aren’t constantly walking through large clouds of dust, there’s a good chance you’ll be surrounded by pollutants on the site. It is important to have an effective mask that can filter dust and gas so that you can breathe easily and keep your lungs clean.

  • Safety Jacket

Safety jackets have many uses, including keeping you visible, which is essential if you are working in a high-traffic area. The best ones are incredibly warm and will keep you dry while offering multiple compartments for easy access to your most-used gear.

  • Earplugs or Noise-Cancelling Headset

Heavy duty construction equipment is loud, and even if it doesn’t bother you at first, repeated exposure to it can wreak havoc on your ears. Earplugs rated for construction can work wonders for cancelling out noise, and bulkier headsets are even more effective for those with sensitive hearing.

  • Gloves

On any given day, there’s a chance you’ll be working with sharp, jagged, or corrosive materials. A durable pair of gloves is vital for keeping your hands safe from toxic substances and protecting them from abrasions. It doesn’t hurt that they also keep you warm when the temperature drops.

  • A Heavy-Duty Watch

You’ll need a solid, heavy-duty watch to keep track of time, because you can’t always be reaching for your phone. It doesn’t need to be fancy, but it should be built to hold up to your daily activities.

  • Strong, Comfortable Jeans

Jeans are the preferred pants of many construction workers as they are durable and stand up to some pretty heavy abuse. Just make sure that you find some that are durable and made of high-quality materials so that you get the most use out of them.

  • Work Belt

For easy access to all of your essential tools, a work belt is a must-have. Look for something with various compartment sizes, and, of course, one that fits you perfectly.
